Tokyo After Dark
GLENFIDDICH SINGLE MALT SCOTCH WHISKY, IN COLLABORATION WITH JAPANESE-INSPIRED CERAMICIST KING HOUNDEKPINKOU, PRESENT TOKYO AFTER DARK AT HARRODS; AN IMMERSIVE ART INSTALLATION INSPIRED BY THE VIBRANT BEAUTY OF JAPANESE CITY NIGHTLIFE.
The collaboration marks the launch of the limited-edition Glenfiddich 29 Year Old Grand Yozakura. This rare whisky celebrates Hanami - the “cherry blossom festival” - where Japan appreciates the temporal beauty of nature through the sakura. The festival is best experienced illuminated after dark; known as the Yozakura or ‘night sakura’.
Tokyo After Dark is a luxury reimagining of an izakaya, a traditional style of Japanese bar, at Harrods - infused with King’s experiences in Japan at night and the inspiration he has taken from Hanami.
Throughout the installation in June, a specially curated Glenfiddich menu will be available at the Baccarat Bar at Harrods for guests to indulge in exquisite Glenfiddich single malt Scotch whiskies.
Born in 1987, King Houndekpinkou is a Franco-Beninese ceramicist who lives in Paris. In 2012, his discovery of the Roku Koyō (the six ancient pottery kilns of Japan) encouraged him to visit Bizen, Japan, each year to acquire further knowledge and gain experience beside local potters. This epiphanic moment influenced King to develop Terres Jumelles, a program that consists of fostering a cross-cultural dialogue between the various pottery sites of Benin and Japan through the local practices of ceramics/pottery.
Glenfiddich 29 Year Old Grand Yozakura is the latest release within the renowned Grand Series; a rare limited edition fusion celebrating the finest flavours from Scotland and Japan. This extraordinary whisky is matured at the Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown and finished in oak casks that previously matured the oldest distilled alcoholic spirit in Japan, Awamori, producing a finish unlike any other. The Grand Series is a series of extraordinary single malts that is characterised by innovative and experimental cask finishing.
