"In my art, materials are very important, and the materials I choose resonate for me as part of a culture…"
Born 1977 in Harare, Zimbabwe, Halter graduated from the Michaelis School of Fine Art, Cape Town in 2001 where he still works and lives. He incorporates local sayings and expressions into his mixed media work which explore a diverse range of social phenomena ranging from African politics to rave culture. In these works he seeks to experiment with methods of production, often preferring to appropriate styles that play down any sign of the "artist's hand" in the creative process, resulting in potent combinations that are often open for interpretation'. Since his debut solo exhibiton of 2006 Take Me To Your Leader - João Ferreira Gallery, Dan has gone on to exhibit his work internationally and is currently participating Dak'Art 2010, the 9th Biennale of Contemporary African Art from May 7 - June 7, 2010.
