Glenfiddich 21 Year Old Whisky: Raised in Scotland. Roused by the Caribbean
With its rich, sweet and exotic taste, having been finished in casks that once contained our very own specially made Caribbean rum, Glenfiddich 21 Year Old is a truly special expression.
To celebrate its unique place amongst our range of single malts and to bring to life its distinguished history, we recently unveiled this famous whisky in a new, exciting and altogether ground breaking way. You may have seen it:
To create this stunning video, we employed the help of the hugely talented London-based photographer, Benedict Morgan, who worked tirelessly with us to unlock and visualise our 21 Year Old’s vibrant character and distinctive, complex flavour, before capturing it in spectacular fashion.
So, you may be wondering just what makes this signature whisky so special.
Well, from the very beginning our Malt Master, Brian Kinsman, has been at the forefront of its creation, combining age-old tradition with innovative techniques. What’s really special though, is the fact this unique liquid is matured in a combination of American and European oak casks for 21 years and finished in carefully hand selected American oak barrels, seasoned with our very own Caribbean rum, for a further four months.
Glenfiddich 21 Year Old has, quite literally, been raised in Scotland and roused by the Caribbean.
It is the only single malt in the world to undergo finishing in Gran Reserva casks that once contained premium Caribbean rum. This rum is blended to our secret recipe from several tropical Caribbean islands for the optimum effect on the flavours and aromas of our whisky. The recipe awakens distinctive notes of ginger, lime and banana within the rich smoothness of the patiently mellowed 21 Year Old.
Such a remarkable finish ensures this whisky tastes quite like no other, as our Global Brand Ambassador, Ian Millar, will testify:
"Adding an innovative final production method is testament to Glenfiddich's continued quest for perfection - if you're going to do a finish for whisky then the flavour of whatever you use needs to be robust but not at odds with the whisky - rum therefore was a great fit.
Our rum finish gives the liquid extra layers of intensity and an extraordinary twist that truly sets the 21 Year Old apart from other whiskies."
