Amshu Chukki is a Bengaluru-based multi-disciplinary artist who creates work that combines experimental video, photographic prints, painting, and installation. He chronicles the world around him as long-term film/video projects. Marked by Ideas of identity, ecology, fantasy, resistance, politics, and history, his practice is site-informed and is an ongoing exploration of new ways of articulating notions of landscape and cities told through the memories, experiences, and imaginations from the people who belong or inhabit these spaces. In his work, the landscape becomes a site for exercise that brings together various communities and their idiosyncrasies, where it initiates conversation from localized micro contexts to talk from a specific place. His experimental films sometimes spill out into drawings and sculptures that attempt to stage the city and landscape as a protagonist and challenge normative modes of a docu-fiction lens. He contemplates the absurdity of manufactured landscapes and strange locations as she investigates the ideas of reality and fiction in his multimedia artwork.
Amshu is an MS University, Baroda graduate. In addition to receiving numerous accolades, Chukki’s artistic career has taken him to the St. Moritz Art Masters Residency Programme in 2014 and the Darling Foundry, India-Québec Residency in 2015.
His recent exhibitions are, ‘Engadine Diaries’ at Stalla Madulain, Madulain, Switzerland in 2023, and ‘Different Danny And Other Stories’ at Chatterjee and Lal in 2022. His work has been displayed in various venues across the world like St.Moritz Art Film Festival - Becoming Landscape 2013, Maximum City at ChesaPlanta, Zuoz, St. Moritz Art Masters 2014, in Switzerland, Chennai Photo Biennale 2018, and many more.
